Commercial and wireless fire alarm systems

Design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of fire detection and alarm systems for commercial buildings, from a single panel to a multi-building network. Commercial and wireless systems are covered by the same team, so the recommendation follows the building rather than the product.

Who it is for

Building owners, facilities managers and duty holders responsible for a commercial property that needs a fire detection and alarm system installed, replaced, extended or maintained. Wireless systems suit listed buildings, phased refurbishments and sites where cabling would cause disruption.

Related fire safety services

The rest of the fire safety picture

A fire alarm is one part of a compliant building. These are the supporting services most of our clients ask for alongside it, each with its own section you can link to directly.

Fire extinguisher supply and servicing

Extinguishers are the first thing a fire risk assessor looks at and the easiest thing to let drift out of date. We supply, site and service extinguishers across commercial premises, log them against your floor plan and keep the servicing dates visible so nothing expires unnoticed.

  • Supply of extinguishers to suit the risk
  • Annual servicing and extended servicing
  • Replacement where an asset is condemned
  • Records kept with the rest of your fire file

Emergency lighting

Emergency lighting has to work when the mains supply fails, which is exactly when nobody is watching it. We install, test and maintain escape route and standby lighting, including monthly function tests and the annual duration test that produces a record for your compliance file.

  • Escape route and anti-panic lighting
  • Monthly function testing
  • Annual three hour duration testing
  • Fault finding and battery replacement

Weekly compliance checks

Weekly user checks are the duty holder's responsibility, not the engineer's. We can set the routine up, provide the log book and, where it suits your team, carry out the weekly checks on your behalf with a written record each visit.

  • Weekly call point and panel checks
  • Log book set up and reviewed
  • Faults reported the same day
  • Suited to multi-site and managed buildings

Dry riser testing

Dry risers need an annual pressure test and a visual check of the landing valves, cabinets and inlet. We carry out the test, record the results and report anything that would stop the fire service using the riser in an emergency.

  • Annual wet pressure test
  • Landing valve and cabinet inspection
  • Inlet and outlet checks
  • Certificated test record

Fire risk assessments

A fire risk assessment should tell you what to fix and in what order, not just what exists. We assess the building, record the significant findings and give you a prioritised action list that ties back to the systems and equipment you already have.

  • Assessment of the premises and occupants
  • Significant findings recorded
  • Prioritised action plan
  • Review following building or use changes

AOV servicing

Automatic opening vents clear smoke from stairs, corridors and lobbies so people can leave and firefighters can work. We service the actuators, control panels and detectors that drive them, and test that each vent actually opens on signal.

  • Annual AOV servicing and testing
  • Actuator and control panel checks
  • Smoke detection interface testing
  • Remedial works quoted separately

Common questions

Fire alarm questions we are asked most

Can you take over a system another company installed?

Usually, yes. We survey the system, check it is serviceable and tell you if anything needs correcting before we can maintain it. You get that in writing before you commit to a contract.

Do you install wireless fire alarms?

We do, and they are often the right answer where cabling is impractical: listed buildings, temporary structures, phased works or rooms that cannot be disrupted. The recommendation depends on the building, not on a preferred product.

How often should a commercial fire alarm be serviced?

Servicing intervals depend on the system and how the building is used. We set the schedule as part of the maintenance contract and record each visit, so the sequence is visible to an auditor.

Is your fire alarm work certified?

iFire UK Limited holds BAFE SP203-1 third party accreditation for fire alarm design, installation, commissioning and maintenance, and SSAIB certification for our security work. Ask us for the current certificates for your file.
